Transcripts: recordings, speakers and jumping to the second

5 MIN READ·UPDATED NOV 2026·EVIDENCE AND RECORDINGS

Upload an interview, a call or bodycam audio and Evidentor transcribes it on the server, with timestamps and speaker turns. Every line can be cited to the second, and the written record is checked against it.

Upload a recording

Add audio or video in Evidence like any file. It is encrypted, hashed and Bates-numbered at once, its waveform is drawn, and transcription is queued. A forty-minute interview takes a few minutes.

The player

  1. Open the recording. The waveform shows the whole file; red bars mark where a high-severity finding quotes the recording.
  2. Press play, or click anywhere on the wave to jump. Click any line to jump to it. Arrow keys skip five seconds.
  3. Lines quoted by findings are highlighted; the findings themselves are listed on the right with the time they cite.

Name the speakers

Speakers are told apart by turn-taking and labelled Speaker 1, Speaker 2. Press Name the speakers to give them names; every line, page and citation updates.

Import a transcript you already have

Have a court reporter's transcript? Press Import transcript and paste it, one line per turn starting with the time, like [13:22] Det. Pruitt: Walk me back through it. It replaces the automatic one and is marked as imported with its source.

Transcripts in analysis

Transcript text is laid out as pages, so analysis compares what was said with what was written, cites it by Bates number and time, and Ask Evidentor can answer from it.
