People search: criteria, probabilities and saving to a case

6 MIN READ·UPDATED NOV 2026·PEOPLE AND SUBJECTS

Enter a name, phone, email, username or address, plus anything else you know. Every result shows how likely it is to be your person, and why.

Enter what you know

  1. Open People search or press Ctrl K.
  2. Type the name (or a phone, email, @username or street address; Evidentor detects which).
  3. Add the city, state, and birth year or age. Open More to go on for street, ZIP, phone, email and employer.
  4. Check the case and purpose, then press Search. Results arrive in about twenty seconds.

Reading the probabilities

Each card shows a percentage: how likely that record is your person, given what you entered. The starting point is honest: eleven Robert Andrews in a state means each begins at about one in eleven. Then every criterion counts: a matching middle initial, suffix (Jr, III), city, street, ZIP, birth year, phone, email or employer raises it; a mismatch lowers it. Anything a record does not carry is marked unknown and never counted against it.

Likely, possible, unlikely

Likely matches agree with everything you entered and have a location. Possible matches share the name with nothing contradicting, but the record holds too little to be sure. Unlikely is folded away: something you entered does not fit.

Add a birth year, an address or a phone to pull a possible match up into likely, or to rule it out.

Save the right person

  1. Press Save to case on the card. Choose a new subject or add the records to an existing one.
  2. Every item on the card is saved with its source, link, time and SHA-256 hash.
  3. Mark single items Relevant, Not relevant or Wrong person as you go; the subject keeps your decisions.

What the free sources cover, and what they cannot

Evidentor searches public records: property owners (county parcel data), federal campaign donors, licensed professionals, business filings, SEC filers, federal and appellate court dockets, and public profiles. These never include people who only rent and have no filings. For that reach a firm connects a licensed data provider in Firm settings; see Court records in South Carolina.
